After filling out an appointment application on the home page, I will get in touch with you to book an appointment at a time that suites you and your little one. I will come to your home and spend some fun time with your child and conduct a thorough assessment (if they feel comfortable). Please ensure you pick a time that you won’t be rushed and your child is generally happy (i.e. not nap time or lunch time).
Before your appointment, I will send out a medical history and consent form for you to complete and we will go through it together during the appointment. We’ll address your main concerns and then conduct the full examination, clean and enamel remineralisation, if your child is happy for me to do so.
At this stage, I don’t have all the equipment necessary to be able to take x-rays and do fillings at your home. If this is necessary for your child, I can arrange for you to come in and see me at my brick and mortar clinic in Cotton Tree. A referral to a paediatric dentist may be required if your child is very anxious, or extensive work is needed.
The Australian Dental Association recommends dental visits start within six months of their first tooth appearing, and no later than their first birthday. You may be thinking “my baby only has one tooth! Why do they need a check-up?”. There are so many things that we can discuss at that first visit, from sleep concerns (yes, there is a link between sleep and dental issues), how to care for your baby’s new teeth, grinding problems (yes, some babies and children grind), diet education and the list goes on! It’s also super important to familiarise your baby with your chosen dental professional, so they feel comfortable with them being up close and personal, to help set them up for life-long dental treatment with as little fear as possible!
No need to fear, Kristen is here (so cheesy, I know lol)! I’ve worked with my fair share of anxious patients – adults and children – and they are actually my favourites! I pride myself on being able to build trust and rapport with my patients and my qualifications in psychology enable me to be able to approach an anxious patient and help them feel safe and like they are in control. If your child takes a while to warm up, that’s not a problem, we can do the treatment over a few appointments and a reduced fee will be charged if we are unable to get anything done during an appointment.
Absolutely! I believe all children should have access to the same standard of quality care, and my mobile services can actually be more comfortable for special needs patients, as doing treatment in their safe space can help reduce their anxiety and aid with treatment compliance. With that said, I understand how important trust is, and moving at a pace that is ok with them.
Being able to get the kids teeth done while you’re at work can certainly save you a lot of time! I’d be more than happy to provide my services to your child at their school or daycare. For me to be able to do so, I will need to contact the school to formally arrange it, and you will need to consent for treatment to be undertaken without your presence. A report will be sent to you via email and a call will be arranged to discuss any concerns.
Eligible patients may use the Child Dental Benefit Schedule to claim for eligible services up to their cap. Some private health funds will offer a rebate for my services. Please check with your health fund as they will differ based on insurer and your level of cover.
*Please note that travel fees are not claimable through Medicare or Private Health Insurance.
Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about the big kids! Because there are more teeth to check and there is a bit more complexity of care required for adult teeth, I see all my teenage and adult patients at my brick and mortar practice in Cotton Tree, called Sunshine Coast Smile Centre.
